The Varsity Football team won a playoff game for the first time since 2007 with a 35-3 victory over the Estill Fighting Gators. The Thursday night contest pitted a #2 seed Wolverines team against a #5 seed Region III-A foe. Whitmire got off to a good start by driving 14 plays on their first drive. Jaylen Brown (SR) scored on a 6-yard run (the conversion was no good). The next Wolverine drive was a 13-play jaunt that was highlighted by a 1-yard run by Kyle Hunt (SR). The conversion pass failed. Whitmire held a 12-3 lead at the Half. The Wolverines opened up the 2nd Half with an 11-play drive that culminated in another Jaylen Brown score (9-yard run). The 2-point conversion was good on a Caleb Bowers (JR) pass to Alan Mikel Stanley (SR). Chandler Crumley (SO) would add a 6-yard run on the next drive. The Christian McLaren (SR) PAT was good and the Wolverines lead 27-3 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. The finishing score was a 1-yard Cason English (FR) TD run. The conversion pass from English to Garrett Jenkins (SR) was also good.
The Wolverines were lead on the ground by Kyle Hunt (18 carries for 117 yards) and Jalyen Brown (11 carries for 113 yards). Chandler Crumley added 63 yards and C.J. Wicker (Jr) netted 45 yards. The Wolverines rushed for 431 yards on the night.
Whitmire improves to 7-3 and will travel to take on the Wagener-Salley War Eagles on Friday, November 16th in a 2nd Round match-up.
