The Varsity Baseball team fell to Greenwood Christian 6-5 in 8 innings. The Wolverines could not hold onto a 3 run lead in the Top of the 7th. They then squandered an opportunity to take the lead in the Bottom of the the inning. GCS would plate a run in the 8th to take the lead while Whitmire left the tying run at 3rd Base. Chase Hood gave the home team another quality start going 5 innings, giving up 0 ER and striking out 8 batters. Dillon Adams (0-2) took the Loss tossing the last three innings. The Wolverines got hits from Hood, Matthew Prather, Alan Mikel Stanley, and Peyton Crumpton.
“We are frustrated to lose a game that we controlled late. Chase gave us an excellent opportunity to win. We are very happy to cut down on the errors but the mental game got us tonight. Good teams close out games.”
Whitmire (1-5) has now lost consecutive games by 1 run.
They will host Landrum on Monday in a JV/Varsity doubleheader.
