The Lady Wolverines hosted the Lady Eagles of Newberry Academy Wednesday night in a non-region match-up, but were unable to get the victory. As has been the issue throughout the season when it comes to the losses, the Lady Wolverines got off to a slow start and put themselves in a hole that they were unable to get out of. The surplus of turnovers in the first half was the biggest issue as the girls gave up extra opportunity after extra opportunity to the Lady Eagles. The Lady Wolverines got beat when it came to the 50-50 balls, as well, which gave Newberry Academy more opportunities in the paint off of offensive rebounds. I was very impressed with what I saw in the 4th quarter as we were able to put together several really good possessions on offense and score the ball.
The Lady Wolverines were lead in scoring by Alexus Sanders who had 15 points on the evening. She was followed by Kaylynn Roche with 8, Taylor Peay 5, Raegan Kendrick 2, Harleigh McLaren 2, and Chelsea Goggins 2.
The Lady Wolverines were lead on the glass by Raegan Kendrick who pulled down 11 boards. She was followed by Kaylynn Roche with 9, Taylor Peay 6, Alexus Sanders 4, Harleigh McLaren 3, Jazmine Curenton 2, Michelle Ruff 2, Chelsea Goggins 1, and Deja Livingston 1.
As a team, Whitmire had 16 steals (Alexus Sanders 6), 9 assists (Raegan Kendrick 4), and 6 blocks (Taylor Peay 5).
The Lady Wolverines will continue region play Friday night as they host McCormick with the girls game beginning at 6:00 pm.
