Miss Wood enters her 11th year as Whitmire High School’s head athletic trainer and 8th year as a middle school science teacher. Nationally certified as an athletic trainer by the Board of Certification for Athletic Training and the State of South Carolina, she is responsible for coordinating the sports medicine services for all athletes in our athletics program. Beverly earned her undergraduate degree from Erskine College, located in Due West, South Carolina, and her masters from the University of South Carolina. Beverly completed an additional master’s degree in Educational Leadership through the American College of Education. Before coming to Whitmire High School, she served as a student athletic trainer at Erskine and a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of South Carolina. Miss Wood also has been named as the official athletic trainer for the Beach Ball Classic. Beverly is member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association, and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Beverly went through the PACE (Program of Alternative Certification for Educators) program to become certified to teach middle school science. To earn a professional certificate through this program candidates must meet the following criteria: continuous employment as a teacher for three years; successful completion of all required institutes; recommendation for certification by the on-site instructors for the State Department of Education alternative certification training program; successful ADEPT formal evaluation and a successful formal or informal evaluation during the final year of program participation; successful completion of the three designated courses; and a passing score on the PLT. Professional certification was issued at the end of the third year as all requirements were completed.
Since gaining initial teacher certification, Beverly has added gifted and talented endorsement to her certificate. She is also certified to teach the Project Lead the Way foundation classes, Design and Modeling and Automation and Robotics.
Beverly enjoys reading, watching moving, attending athletic events/concerts, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.
Originally from Mullins, Beverly currently lives in Newberry.
