Game Recap

The Lady Wolverines began region play with a home game against the Lady Hornets of Ware Shoals and were able to get the win! The Lady Wolverines came out playing tough defense and were matching WS point for point throughout the first quarter before taking a lead in the second quarter that they would not relinquish. The girls played good basketball in a very physical game that same both teams in the double bonus in the second half. I am proud of the way we composed ourselves in the 4th quarter to be able to pull away and get an important region win. We shot the ball extremely well from the charity stripe and that was a big plus for us over the Lady Hornets. We also did a good job of rebounding the second half; however, we still are sloppy with the ball and need to be able to protect it better from start to finish.

Kaylynn Roche lead Whitmire with 10 points on the evening. Alexus Sanders and Jazmine Curenton both had 9, Raegan Kendrick 7, Chelsea Goggins 5, Taylor Peay 3, Michelle Ruff 2, and Deja Livingston 1.

Kaylynn Roche also lead the Lady Wolverines in rebounds with 18 to give her a very impressive double-double on the evening. Taylor Peay had 8, Raegan Kendrick 5, Chelsea Goggins 4, Jazmine Curenton 3, Alexus Sanders/Deja Livingston 2, and Harleigh McLaren/Hailee Robbins 1.

As a team we amassed 19 steals (Alexus Sanders 7), 9 assists (Alexus Sanders 4), and 10 blocks (Taylor Peay 8).

The Lady Wolverines will continue their season next Thursday with an away region game against SCSDB.

Game Recap

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Great Falls Tuesday night, but did not bring their best basketball with them. We were sloppy on the offensive side of the ball in the first quarter and missed a lot of good scoring opportunities. The second quarter we coupled that sloppiness with laziness on the defensive side of the ball and Great Falls used that to go on a big run to take a large lead into the half. We came out better in the third quarter by making a little run and then got out of position on defense and spastic on offense to allow Great Falls to go another run and shut down any momentum we had. We really got hurt in the rebounding department, as we were unable to get a hold of the ball and gave Great Falls a lot of second, third, and even fourth opportunities under the basket. I am hoping we use this game as a measuring stick going forward as we progress throughout the season.

Alexus Sanders and Kaylynn Roche led the team in scoring with 8 each. Samantha Strubeck, Chelsea Goggins, and Taylor Peay all had 2, as well.

Taylor Peay, Chelsea Goggins, and Kaylynn Roche all had 5 rebounds to lead the team. Jazmine Curenton had 4, Samantha Strubeck/Deja Livingston 2, Harleigh McLaren 1, and Raegan Kendrick 1.

We had 8 steals as a team, 6 assists, and 4 blocks.

The Lady Wolverines start region play Friday as they host Ware Shoals beginning at 6:00 pm.

Game Recap

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Winnsboro to take on Richard Winn Academy Monday night and, although they played well, were unable to get the victory. The Lady Woverines had several early opportunities, but could not capitalize on them and Richard Winn’s transition offense would take advantage of those mishaps. The Lady Wolverines would adjust in the second and third quarters, but gave up some easy baskets in the 4th which too away any chance of a comeback. I thought we played one of our better games last night, but we were slow getting back on defense on several occasions and Richard Winn made us pay for that. When our defense was set we played well. I also thought we did relatively well on offense, but again missed a lot of shots down low and also dropped several passes that could have been good scoring opportunities.

The Lady Wolverines were lead in scoring by Alexus Sanders with 13 points. Raegan Kendrick added 5 and Kaylynn Roche/Taylor Peay both had 2.

Kaylynn Roche lead the team in rebounding with 10 on the night. Jazmine Curenton had 5, Taylor Peay 4, Raegan Kendrick 3, Chelsea Goggins/Deja Livingston 2, and Alexus Sanders 1.

The Lady Wolverines, as a team, had 10 blocks, 5 assists, and 7 steals.

The Wolverines travel to Great Falls tonight with the girls beginning at 6:00 pm.
