The Lady Wolverines finished the regular season as the 3 seed in Region 1A and hosted the Denmark-Olar Lady Vikings Monday night for the first round of the playoffs. The Lady Wolverines came out scoring first, but would allow turnovers to be the story of the first half as the Lady Vikings were able to create fast break offense from panicked play and bad passes. Denmark-Olar was very good in their transition offense and we were unable to adjust to it and slow it down. The girls fought hard all game, but were unable to climb back from the first half deficit. The second half proved to be much better as the Lady Wolverines played more as team and made smarter decisions with the basketball. We were able to go back and forth with the Lady Vikings, but could not cut into the lead.
The Lady Wolverines were lead in scoring by Kaylynn Roche with 12 points. Raegan Kendrick added 4, Samantha Strubeck 2, Taylor Peay 2, and Chelsea Goggins 2.
Kaylynn Roche also lead the team in rebounding with 11 to give her the 7th double-double on the season. Taylor Peay pulled down 7 rebounds, Chelsea Goggins 3, Raegan Kendrick 3, Deja Livingston 2, Hailee Robbins 1, and Michelle Ruff 1.
The team had 2 steals (Chelsea Goggins), 6 assists (Taylor Peay 3), and 10 blocks (Taylor Peay 8).
I would like to say congratulations to these young ladies on a very successful season and also thank you to the hard work and dedication that they put in to get to this point. To the seniors, Taylor and Jazmine, thank you for everything you have done for this team and you will be missed.
